Songun Internet Seminar

The Online Songun Seminar is organized by the International Korean Friendship Association (KFA) to provide an open space in which people around the world can meet representatives of Korean society and discuss important issues in an intellectual atmosphere free from propaganda.

Songun, the military-first policy of Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, Chairman of the National Defense Committee, has been adopted in the title of the conference because it is the guiding principle of contemporary Korean politics and reflects the challenges faced by the Korean people in the modern international context.

The Online Songun Seminar will bring officials, academics and other representatives of Korean society together with participants from around the world to discuss important issues relating to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Through the medium of cyberspace, conference participants will engage in dialogue aimed at broadening understanding of life in the contemporary DPRK, as well as awareness of the challenges faced by the Korean people in the present international climate.

The conference is unique in that it offers people around the globe a rare chance to meet and interact with important figures from the DPRK, who can shed light on many important issues that are often sensationalized by Western media.

Participants will have the opportunity to hear the North Korean perspective on topics such as reunification, human rights, economic development, national defense and the nuclear issue.

Through open dialogue and the sincere exchange of ideas, we hope that participants will gain a deeper understanding of modern Korea and will be better prepared to decipher truth from myth.
