Aphorism for Korea’s reunification

“The reunification of the country is precisely patriotism and the struggle for it is the highest form of patriotic struggle.” This aphorism of leader Kim Jong Il powerfully arouses the Korean nation to the genuine patriotic struggle for national reunification.

In addition, it clarifies the truth of life and struggle for the Koreans who have been undergoing sufferings caused by the national division.

The Korean nation, with King Dangun as its ancestral father, is a homogeneous nation and the same blood that has created a 5,000-year-long history while living in the same territory.

It, however, has been subjected to misfortunes, divided into the south and the north by outside forces for over 60 years.

The US and its satellite forces do not want to see the reunification of Korea to achieve their aggressive and separatist design. They are making desperate efforts to rupture the reconciliation and cooperation between the south and the north by hook and by crook and lead the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of war for imposing the scourge of a nuclear war on the Koreans.

In order to achieve the reunification at the earliest date under the present grave situation, those with the blood and soul of the Korean nation, should value the great national unity dearer than anything else and turn out as one in the struggle against the separatists.

Each member of the country should bear in mind that the reunification of the country is patriotism and the struggle for it is the highest form of the patriotic struggle and devote his all to the reunification. Only then, he will be known among the fellow countrymen and become a patriotic famous in the history of the nation.

The validity and vitality of the aphorism have been proved by the known and unknown heroes who laid down their valuable lives for the country’s reunification and are being displayed by the Koreans in the south, north and overseas who are daringly joining the grand march for national independence and reunification.

Blessed by Songun politics

Different publications often imagine outbreak of war on the Korean Peninsula these days.

“The Sham War Scenario” of the United States supposes 70 percent of the population would be killed and 90 percent of the material wealth be devastated in south Korea if a war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula. It added that at the initial stage of war, one million people at least would be killed or injured and most of the industry be destroyed in Seoul-Gyeonggi area, major center of the south Korean economy populated by 40 percent of the population.

The south Korean magazine “Mal” No. 6, 2003 wrote that if a bomb burst and destroy even an atomic power plant in South Gyeongsang and North and South Jeolla Provinces, where 47 percent of the south Korean people and atomic power plants are concentrated, the death ashes equivalent to 150-180 hydrogen bombs and tremendous radioactive rays will kill tens of thousands of people and reduce all of the material wealth to ashes and people, if survived, will suffer from the nuclear pollution, starvation and thirst till die.

Generally, war knows no mercy, nor difference between politicians and businessmen, between progressives and conservatives.

The United States is unscrupulous about disaster and ravages of other nations for its aggressive purpose. It is the inner mind of Americans. It is well proved by the cruel atrocities the US imperialists committed during the 1950-1953 Korean War and by the inhumane crimes and man-slaughter Americans commit in Iraq and Afghanistan.

For the existence of the nation and security of the Korean Peninsula, therefore, it is imperative above all to deter war on this peninsula. The situation of this peninsula grows acuter owing to the American imperialists. Under this situation, nothing is more important than to secure peace against their moves to provoke a war of aggression in this peninsula.

In this point of view, Songun politics is indeed proved to be the patriotic and peace-loving politics which secures the peace on the peninsula by increasing the military capability.

But for the self-defensive war deterrence we have made under the banner of Songun, a war would have broken out in scores on the peninsula. Had we not enforced the Songun politics nor increased military capability, tightening belt, the United States would have touched off a war of invasion in Korea before in Iraq.

Strong the opponent is, Americans go to the negotiating table with it, but weak, they conquer him without hesitation. It is the very gangster-like nature and method of invasion the United States has. How many countries or nations suffer from calamities and miseries in the world, for their weak military strength!

Do the US imperialists refrain from igniting a war in Korea for the sake of the south Korean people and economy? No.

It is entirely because of strong military capability prepared by Songun. That is why we say with pride that Songun is the precious sword for the peace.

The benefits of Songun draw no distinction within the Korean Peninsula. It benefits evenly every member of the Korean nation by securing the peace over the whole peninsula.

Politicians, businessmen, religious men, school children and all other sections of the south Korean people can never think of doing their jobs, if we had not built the war deterrence despite of various hardships.

So, the head of the Independent Idea Research Institute in the United States, who is a US-resident Korean, wrote in the article titled “South Koreans are benefited by the Songun politics” that the United States has been deterred from provoking another war in the Korean Peninsula by the Songun politics of the great leader Kim Jong Il, with the result that south Korea has received a lot of benefits for a decade of years.

South Koreans, too, say: “If we were Iraqis, we would be limbed off by US bombs and our children would tremble all over for fear of US troops rummaging our houses. Gratitude to the Songun politics!” It sounds plausible.

The great Songun politics is indeed the all-mighty precious sword securing the peace of the nation and guaranteeing prosperous future of a reunified Korea. South Korean people need to know it and support the Songun politics wholeheartedly.

Korean folk traditions flowering in Songun era

The Korean nation has evolved unique folk traditions in the course of their history of 5,000 years. The traditions are developing and coming into full bloom in today’s Korea where the Songun politics is in force.

Most impressive is the celebration of the folk festivals such as the lunar New Year’s Day, Jongwoldaeborum (the 15th of the lunar first month) and Chusok (the 15th of the lunar eighth month).

In recent years the Korean people have been encouraged to celebrate the lunar New Year in a grander manner than the solar New Year in accordance with their tradition. On their traditional New Year the streets are decorated with a variety of celebratory lanterns, ornamental boards and beautiful flowers; crowds of people in elegant national costumes enjoy their festival, flying kites, playing shuttlecock , top-spinning, rope-jumping, yut game, chess, Paduk and various other games. The aroma of national dishes emanating from restaurants here and there adds to the festival atmosphere.

On the evening of the 15th of the lunar first month people cast their eyes at the rising full moon, talking about their hopes and wishes in the new year.

On the day of Chusok people visit their ancestral tombs with various folk dishes to pay homage to their ancestors while other people do swinging and ssirum (Korean wrestling). That day the Grand Bull Prize ssirum contest is held in Pyongyang attracting the attention of the people who want to know who will win the grand bull weighing nearly a ton and a gold bell.

Not only in folk festivals but also on ordinary days, the Korean people enjoy traditional things, the looks of women in elegant chima (skirt) and Jogori (coat) add beauty to the scene of the streets.

The aroma of baked chestnut and sweet potato fills the air in autumn, and the looks of women who make Kimchi are impressive in early winter. The people who are cheerfully dancing to the beat of Janggo, one of the national instruments, can be frequently seen, and the merry laughter of the people who are adding a zest to the yut game and a Korean chess be heard everywhere.

The work of inheriting and developing the folk traditions is an important concern of the state in Korea.

This work is regarded as an important undertaking to enhance the national character and patriotism among the people, and a great effort is put into this work. National clothes exhibitions, national dish contests, folk songs and peasant dances festivals take place frequently. The production and selling of things for folk games become active. “Arirang,” the mass gymnastics and artistic performancetaking place in Korea, is the masterpiece based on the folk traditions of the Korean nation, and is greatly admired by the people of the world.

The folk traditions coming into full bloom in Songun Korea clearly show the fact that the country values the national character and heightens the dignity of independence.

US policy of occupation of south Korea

What the US policy of occupation of south Korea has brought is nothing but evil and misfortune. The Korean nation can neither get rid of misfortune and pain, to say nothing of ensuring peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world, unless an end is put to this evil policy.

The US policy to keep south Korea under its occupation is a brigandish and criminal policy as it tramples down upon the dignity, sovereignty, security and interests of the Korean nation and an aggressive and hegemonic policy to invade and put Korea under its control.

The policy is also imposing the tragedy of national division upon the Koreans and blocking Korea’s reunification in a bid to keep it divided permanently. This policy is also aimed to domination, plunder, massacre and other crimes as it violates the dignity and sovereignty of the south Koreans and inflicts all sorts of misfortune and disasters upon them.

The criminal nature of the US policy of occupation of south Korea, a hostile policy toward north Korea and a war policy, has been brought into bolder relief today.

The US is stepping up the “relocation” of its troops in south Korea and transfer of its bases in it in a bid to launch the second Korean War quite contrary to the trend of the situation on the Korean Peninsula toward reconciliation between the south and the north and reunification of Korea. It is also putting spurs to arms buildup while increasing the aggressive role of those forces. It is staging madcap exercises and perpetrating military provocations to launch a war of aggression against north Korea after massively introducing latest war means into south Korea. It is steadily modifying all sorts of war plans to mount a preemptive nuclear attack on it.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula is so tense that a war may break out there any moment due to the US war moves and this has put all the Koreans in the danger of a nuclear holocaust. The US troop’s presence in south Korea is the root cause of aggression and war on the Korean Peninsula and the danger of aggression and war will not disappear as long as it goes on.

The US should roll up its criminal policy of occupation of south Korea and immediately quit it.
