Boundless admiration for the great man

Now the world progressives and mass media highly eulogize wise strategy and resolute decisiveness of leader Kim Jong Il who wins victory after victory, frustrating vicious moves of the of imperialist allied forces.

“Leader Kim Jong Il, who knows no impossibility, throws the US on the defensive in the sharp political and military showdown between north Korea and US by dint of the strong Songun politics.

Indeed, Kim Jong Il, who controls the US pretending to be the only superpower in the world under his thumb with courage and mettle of Mt. Baekdu, foreseeing the 21st century and leading the world with the Songun politics, is a great statesman and the ever-victorious iron-willed brilliant commander unprecedented in the history of politics.

(Chairman of the Central Committee of the Nepalese Worker-Peasant Party )

“North Korea wins victory after victory in showdown with the US boasting itself to be the “only power in the world” and is highlighted as a beacon of progressive humankind thanks to the outstanding political ability and matchless courage and mettle of leader Kim Jong Il who has inherited successfully the cause of President Kim Il Sung.”

(Secretary of the Communist Party of Tajikistan)

“History has not known such a great man as north Korean leader Kim Jong Il who has great courage.

The collapse of socialism in east European countries like domino effect was a great political upheaval that rocked the socialist movement and humankind. The imperialists widely advertised that socialism is a ‘failure of history’ and meet ‘total end’ in the world.

It is not easy to defend and support socialism in such a grave circumstance. Firm confidence in socialism and matchless courage are required. Leader Kim Jong Il is the great man of faith and courage.”

Eight beauty spots of the Songun era

From time immemorial Korea has been called a 3,000-ri land of golden tapestry because it abounds in beautiful mountains and clear streams. It has the tradition of admiring famous views and beautiful sceneries as eight beauty spots. Typical examples known so far are “the eight beauty spots of Korea,” “the eight beauty spots of Gwanso, (northwestern part of Korea)” “the eight beauty spots of Gwandong (northeastern part of Korea)” and “the eight beauty spots of Pyongyang.”

Now another “eight beauty spots” have been added to them in Korea. They comprise “The Sunrise on Mt. Baekdu,” “The Snowscape at Dabaksol Post,” “The Royal Azaleas on the Chol Pass,” “The Brightly-lit River Jangja,” “The Echo of Ullim Falls,” “The Horizon on Handure Plain,” “The Sea of potato flowers in Daehongdan” and “The Beautiful scenes of Beoman-ri.”

The sunrise over Mt. Baekdu begins by dyeing Janggun Peak and other ones, curious rocks and cliffs and a vast sea of trees, and covers the whole earth with crimson glow in an instant. The fresh pink royal azaleas which sway in the spring breeze, blooming silently on the high ridge of the Chol Pass which even clouds are said to sail over by easy stages afford scenes of rare beauty. But the genuine value and importance of the new eight beauty spots of north Korea lie not simply in their natural beauty but in their contemporary significance.

Above all, the eight beauty spots of north Korea show the great personality of Kim Jong Il, the heaven-sent leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea who has victoriously led the Korean revolution which started on Mt. Baekdu.

The “Sunrise over Mt. Baekdu” which comes first among the new eight beauty spots intensively represents the greatness of the leader.

From time immemorial Mt. Baekdu, the highest mountain of Korea, has been called the ancestral mountain and the sacred mountain of the Korean nation. The origin of modern Korea, too, was opened up in the Mt. Baekdu which was the center of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle waged by President Kim Il Sung of the DPRK in the first half of the last century and the bright future of Korea, too, dawned in Mt. Baekdu where the leader was born. The “Sunrise over Mt. Baekdu” can be said to symbolize the leader has risen as the sun of the 21st century.

The leader would climb up to the top of Mt. Baekdu whenever the Korean revolution encountered the greatest difficulty or a grave situation. When socialism collapsed in many countries towards the end of the last century and the north Korean people experienced the worst trials because the combined forces of imperialism attempted to attack the DPRK, taking advantage of the prevailing situation, he ascended Mt. Baekdu swept by raging snowstorms and confirmed his determination to defend socialism. He went up Mt. Baekdu early in 2000 and decided resolutely to bring about a great turn in achieving the reunification of the divided Korean nation. As a result, the North-South Joint Declaration was adopted on June 15 that year. The image of north Korea which wins victory after victory in the teeth of all trials and challenges can be said legitimately to be the bright result born by the sunrise over Mt. Baekdu.

“The eight beauty spots of Korea” show the image of the DPRK in the Songun era which defends and glorifies socialism by arms.

Typical examples are “The Snowscape at the Dabaksol Post” and “Royal Azaleas on the Chol Pass.

On January 1, 1995 when the north Korea people had been suffering unheard-of hardships caused by the challenges of the imperialist forces and natural disasters while mourning over the demise of President Kim Il Sung on July 8, 1994 as their greatest national loss, the leader inspected a Korean People’s Army unit called “Dabaksol Post” for on-the-spot guidance in the snow in spite of the rigors of winter with a determination to defend the country, the people and socialism by arms and carry forward the cause of the President to completion. This was an event of vital importance to the destiny of the Korean people. Ten-odd years have passed since then, but the Korean people can never forget the day even for a moment. This is why they love “The Snowscape at the Dabaksol Post” so much.

“Royal Azaleas on the Chol Pass,” too, tell about the strenuous efforts made by the leader during his long Songun guidance journey and his love for the soldiers. Under his Songun policy he continued to increase the national defense capacity as a whole and incessantly visited the soldiers. Between 1995 and 2002 alone he visited 1,137 military organs and units to give onsite guidance. He crossed the Chol Pass moiré than ten times on his way to the front line. The royal azaleas in full bloom over the pass offer a heart-warming scene telling stories of the leader’s tireless efforts and great exploits as the north Koreans say.

“The eight beauty spots of Songun” are permeated with the leader’s love for the people, the spirit of his devoted service to them and the resolve and stamina of the north Korean people who admirably carry his intentions into effect.

This is proved by “The Horizon of the Handure Plain” showing the vast new farmland of north Korea where small patches of fields have vanished and wide standard fields appeared stretching away as far as the eye can reach. “The Sea of Potato Flower in Daehongdan” demonstrates the correctness and vitality of a revolution in potato farming. “The Beautiful Scenes of Beoman-ri” show the new scenes of north Korean farming villages which have turned into legendary Utopias. “The Brightly-lit River Jangja” shows the impressive night views of the mountain areas lit up by electricity from locally-constructed small and medium power stations. And “The Echo of the Ullim Falls” shows a beauty spot which had been hidden in primeval forest for long ages until it was discovered and built into a holiday resort of the people in the Songun era.

All these changes are inconceivable without the indefatigable efforts of the leader. Clearly showing the way ahead of the people, he has visited factories, farms, towns and villages without cease and energetically guided them in their work on the spot. As a consequence, many dwelling houses, medium and small power stations, modern light industry factories, chicken and catfish farms and other up-to date production centers were built in the DPRK even during the “arduous march.” Great nature-making operations have been carried out for the first time in the 5,000-year-long history of Korea.

“The Eight Beauty Spots of the Songun Era” will always be reminders of leader Kim Jong Il’s exploits.
