Today the north Korean people are vigorously advancing along the road of socialist cause, overcoming all the trials. The Workers’ Party of Korea is standing in the van of the struggle.

The WPK which was founded by President Kim Il Sung on October 10, 1945, has strengthened into a veteran party that has always led the people to victory through whatever storm and trials, a mass party that has received the support and trial of all the people through its struggle for a long period. It has overcome manifold difficulties and made profound social changes and great construction work to turn Korea into the socialist power of independence, self-support and self-reliant defense. It has smashed the aggression and intervention of the imperialists, and reliably defended the security of the country and the achievements of the revolution. The 60-year-long history of the WPK has proved that its leadership is the decisive guarantee for the victory of the popular masses’ cause of independence, the socialist cause.

The WPK has strengthened the motive force of the socialist cause and enhanced its role.

The socialist cause is the revolutionary cause which is promoted by the popular masses themselves who have emerged as the independent motive force for the first time in human history.

The WPK awakened and organized the masses who had been suffering from the exploitation, poverty and the absence of rights for a long time to make them the independent motive force of history who shape their destiny independently and creatively.

It armed all the people with the leader’s idea and firmly united them around the leader organizationally and ideologically and morally to make the whole society a socio-political organism. In north Korea the WPK is now firmly standing in the center of the revolutionary ranks and the masses are strongly united around the Party and the leader with one mind.

Under the leadership of the party, the north Korean people have displayed unlimited creativity in socialist construction. Under the complicated situation after national liberation (August 15, 1945), the WPK organized mass organizations and set up the government of the people, made the people master of politics and the country, and organized the general ideological mobilization movement for nation building, an emulation drive for increased production and a campaign against illiteracy to awaken the people in the struggle for building the new society. On the strength of their uplifted spirit, the land reform, the nationalization of industries and other democratic reforms were carried out in a short time in north Korea.

The WPK has led the socialist cause to victory by means of its correct strategy and tactics.

The socialist cause is a difficult and complicated undertaking which is attained by the severe struggle against the imperialist and dominationist forces, striking out a new path. So it is essential to have correct strategy and tactics. Without them, one cannot hew out his way in the right direction and by the correct method.

The WPK has led the socialist cause to victory by putting forward the lines and policies in keeping with the desire of the people and the actual condition of the country in each period and stage of the revolution and construction. In the latter half of the 1950s, it set forth the original policy of transforming the agricultural sector in a socialist way before the technical reconstruction of the rural economy to implement the agricultural co-operativization, main link of the socialist revolution. And the agricultural co-operativization, the serious social change, was successfully carried out in 4-5 years by adopting the policy that relied firmly on the poor peasants, strengthened alliance with the middle peasants and restricted and reformed the rich farmers. It put forward the basic line of building the socialist economy by giving priority to the growth of heavy industry while simultaneously developing light industry and agriculture as well as the policy of building the self-reliant national economy. By arousing all the people to the struggle to carry out them, it turned Korea into a socialist industrial state in 14 years.

The WPK has consistently adhered to the revolutionary principle in the whole course of implementing the socialist cause.

The socialist cause is distinguished from other social movement for its revolutionary principle and it opens up its way ahead by relying on the validity and vitality of its principle. When the revolutionary principle is adhered to, the socialist cause will advance, overcoming all kinds of hardships and trials, but when it is abandoned, the cause will change and collapse halfway. This is the lesson of history.

The WPK has built and developed the socialist system in accordance with the people’s desire of independence and their interests and the nature of their cause of independence with all consistency. The fiercer the anti-socialist offensive of the imperialists became to infringe upon the people’s interests, the more firmly it adhered to and carried out the revolutionary principle. Towards the end of the last century, socialism collapsed in several countries, the maneuvers of the imperialist allied forces headed by the US to isolate and stifle the DPRK became obstinate, President Kim Il Sung, the founder of the Socialist Korea, passed away suddenly and the natural disasters repeated for consecutive years. When the imperialist made a timetable, saying that the “ruin of north Korea is a matter of time,” leader Kim Jong Il, the successor to the President, firmly declared “no change can be expected from me” and led the people to advance invariably along the road of socialism. Thanks to the Songun politics of the WPK led by the leader, the socialism of Korea was not only firmly defended, but also is vigorously advancing toward a higher goal of building a great prosperous powerful socialist nation.

Through their practical experience, the Korean people have become convinced that it is the way of victory and glory to follow the WPK.

It is not fortuitous that the slogan, “Long live the Workers’ Party of Korea, the organizer of and guide to all victories of the Korean people!” is put up throughout Korea.   

Reunification, pressing task of Korean nation

Korea’s reunification is a historic cause that not be delayed.

It is matter of re-linking the severed blood vessel of the nation which is divided into the south and the north, achieving national unity and establishing national sovereignty throughout the country.

As the essence of the reunification issue tells the master of this issue is the Korean nation itself.

What is most important here is to unite the strength of all members of the nation.

Owing to the division of the country the uniform development of the nation is being grossly restrained and the people are suffering from great misfortune and pain. The gap between the south and the north is widening in all domains of politics, the economy and culture and the commonness of homogeneous nation formed through the long history is getting obscure.

Worse still, the distrust and confrontation between the south and the north may incur the danger of national holocaust.

If Korea is reunified, the country will have greater potential for prosperity.

It means that all resources of the nation, technological, natural and economic, can be pooled and the uniform development of the nation promoted to build a powerful nation that the world people envy.

Therefore, when reunified, the Korean people can live happily, exalting their national dignity.

The process of the national reunification movement shows that if foreign interference in the reunification issue is connived at or tolerated and the anti-reunification forces are left intact, greater obstacles will be laid in the way of national reunification, rather than settling the issue.

If the wisdom and strength of the nation are pooled for reunion the issue can be resolved successfully.

The June 15 Joint Declaration adopted and published at the historic Pyongyang summit, the first of its kind since Korea’s division over half a century ago, is the milestone for reunification that opened up a new era of independent reunification and the guideline of reunification embodying the three principles of national reunification—independence, peaceful reunification and great national unity.

The joint declaration contains the matter of achieving reunification by making the most of the common features of solutions to reunification presented by the south and the north and the matter of promoting cooperation and exchange between them in all fields.

After all, when the South-North Joint Declaration is implemented, independent reunification will be achieved, realizing an age-old desire of the Koreans. It is evidenced by the positive development of the situation that has taken place since the publication of the joint declaration.

Events that surpassed all imagination before have taken place one after another: the return of unconverted long-term prisoners, the reunion of separated families and relatives, the holding of reunification-oriented functions drawing northerners and southerners from all walks of life, the re-linking of railways and roads, the development of the Gaesong Industrial Zone, Mt. Geumgang tourism and joint entry and joint cheering in international competitions.

These shows that the only way to reunion is for the Koreans to adhere to the principle of settling the reunification issue independently by united efforts under the banner of “by our nation itself.”

Korea’s reunification cause will surely be accomplished as long as there is such a clear-cut solution as the June 15 Joint Declaration and all the people are turning out in the patriotic struggle for reunion.

Advance along the road of reunification

Those who truly love the country and nation should take the stand of national independence and categorically reject flunkeyism and dependence on the foreign forces.

If a nation is shackled to others with its independence lost, its members can never escape national maltreatment and humiliation and the fate of a ruined nation with its dignity, rights and interests violated.

It is treachery to stand against national independence and pursue flunkeyism and dependence on the foreign forces.

The Korean nation’s struggle to reunify the country is a patriotic struggle for the independence of the country and the nation.

National independence is the fundamental point and the hard core in reunifying the country divided by the foreign forces.

Korea’s reunification is a problem relating to the sovereignty of the nation, and what is essential in the struggle for national reunification is to oppose foreign forces’ domination and intervention and win the independence of the nation. So, the reunification of the country just means national independence and vice versa.

Those who truly want to reunification aspire after national independence, while those who oppose reunification and pitches for division seeks flunkeyism and dependence on outsiders. After all, the approach to national independence is a touchstone distinguishing between patriotism and treachery, between reunification and anti-reunification. Just as patriotism and treachery are incompatible with each other, national independence cannot go with dependence on the foreign forces.

There is no room within the nation for such flunkeyist traitors selling off the dignity and sovereignty of the nation, root and all, to outsiders while acting as their puppet.

Those traitors, who seek flunkeyism and dependence on outside forces, standing against the nation even today when national independence becomes a trend of the times, can never escape a stern punishment by history and the nation.

The Korean nation in the south, the north and abroad should vigorously intensify the struggle for independent reunification with clear consciousness of national independence, rejecting flunkeyism and dependence on the foreign forces.      

Withdrawal of US troops from south Korea, a prerequisite to the independence of the south Korean society

Independence of the Korean nation with time-honored history, culture and wisdom has been infringed upon for a long period due to the occupation of south Korea by US troops for over 60 years.

The withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea is a prerequisite to the independence of the south Korean society.

Independence of the south Korean society is a desire related to the dignity and destiny of the Korean nation, not to speak of the south Korean people. The dignity and true life of the nation can be brought into bloom only in a land of national independence.

The south Korean people have suffered all sorts of misfortune and disgrace with the national dignity and sovereignty violated by imperialist aggressor forces for more than a century owing to the 60-odd-year long military occupation and rule of the US imperialists following the Japanese imperialists’ colonial rule. This is the worst tragedy of the Korean nation.

The withdrawal of the US troops from south Korea is the most urgent requisite to peace of Korea and the cause of its reunification.

The US is advertising its troops present in south Korea as an “apostle of peace” and “war deterrent.” But this is a sheer lie. The US troops are the root cause of a war on the Korean Peninsula and a cancer-like entity in the matter of reunification.

The US troops in south Korea perpetrated repeatedly such mean acts as lowering the check-bar to inter-Korean economic cooperation based on the June 15 joint declaration under unreasonable pretexts. Moreover, they have desperately spoiled the atmosphere of inter-Korean reconciliation and reunification by staging provocative war drills against north Korea.

All the Korean nation in the south, the north and abroad should further intensify the nationwide struggle to put an end to the US troops’ occupation of south Korea at an early date and thus write finis to the history of misfortune and disgrace resulting from the presence of the aggressor troops in this land.
